Getting started.

What is Lunafy?

Lunafy is free hosting for Discord bots written in Node.js or Python. Each server comes with a panel for the console, files and environment variables.

Is Lunafy really free for Discord bot hosting?

Yes. Your first Discord bot server is free for as long as you keep your account active and follow the terms of service. It needs no credit card and no identity verification.

Do I need a card for the free server?

No. A card is only needed to pay for additional servers or open ports. The first server needs no identity verification either.

Can I host a discord.js or discord.py bot?

Yes. Lunafy runs Node.js and Python bots, and installs dependencies from package.json or requirements.txt.

Which Node.js and Python versions are supported?

Node.js 18 and 20, and Python 3.10 and newer. For Python you pick your version in the startup settings.

How are dependencies installed?

Lunafy reads package.json or requirements.txt and installs what your bot needs on every start.

Where do the servers run?

In the EU-West region. The platform is hosted by Hetzner in Germany.

How do I sign in?

With your Discord account. Discord is used for account creation and authentication.

Do I have to join the Lunafy Discord server?

Yes. Membership of the Lunafy Discord server is required to keep your account and services active. If you leave or are removed, your services may be disabled and your account suspended until you rejoin and your membership is verified.

Can I have more than one account?

No. Each user is allowed one account. Creating or using alt accounts is prohibited and may lead to the suspension or termination of all accounts involved.

Free servers and renewal.

Why does the free server need a 7-day renewal?

Renewals keep free capacity for bots that are in use instead of abandoned servers. You get an alert before expiry and one click adds another 7 days.

Will I be told before my free server expires?

Yes. You get an alert before it expires, and one click in the dashboard adds another 7 days.

What happens if I forget to renew a free server?

A free server that is not renewed in time is deleted. A backup of its files is sent to you automatically, on Discord or by email if Discord is not available, and kept for 3 days. You get an alert before it expires, and renewing takes one click in the dashboard.

Do I get my files back if a free server expires?

A backup of the server files is sent to you automatically when the server expires. It arrives on Discord, or by email if Discord is not available, and is kept for 3 days.

What resources does a server include?

256 MB of RAM, 0.5 vCPU and 512 MB of disk per server. Free and paid servers run on the same hardware, which is enough for many small and medium Discord bots.

Paid servers and billing.

What does an additional server cost?

€1 per server per month. Additional servers never need renewing and have the same specs as the free server.

How do I get additional servers?

From the panel, choose the server type and complete the subscription online. The server is created automatically after payment and billed at €1 per server per month.

Are paid servers more powerful than the free one?

No. Free and paid servers run on exactly the same hardware. Paid servers do not need renewing.

How do open ports work?

Each open port on any server, free or paid, costs €0.50 per month. Ports are allocated on request and billed monthly. Hosting websites, web servers or API servers is not allowed by the terms of service.

Can I get a refund?

Payments are processed by Polar, and the merchant of record and refund process are shown at checkout. Consumers can cancel a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason by writing on Discord or to billing@lunafy.run. There are no refunds on unused subscription periods after those 14 days.

Running your bot.

Where do I keep my bot token?

In the environment variables section of the panel, so your bot token and API keys stay out of your source code.

Can I upload and edit files in the browser?

Yes. The file manager lets you upload your project, edit a file or clear a log without leaving the browser.

Can I host a website or a web server?

No. Lunafy is only for Discord bots written in Python or Node.js. Websites, web and API servers, game servers, exposed databases, scrapers, miners, proxies and VPNs are not allowed, and neither are tunneling tools such as Cloudflare Tunnel or ngrok.

Rules, reliability and data.

Full details are in the terms of service.

What is not allowed on Lunafy?

Anything that is not a Discord bot, tunneling or port-forwarding tools, attempts to bypass these restrictions, attacks on other systems, and illegal, abusive or harmful use. The terms of service list the full rules.

Is uptime guaranteed?

No. We make reasonable efforts to keep servers online, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation and are not responsible for downtime or data loss. Keep your own backups.

What support do free servers get?

Support for free servers is best effort, with no guaranteed response or resolution time.

Why is my access to the panel blocked?

Access may be restricted for connections identified as risky, such as VPNs, proxies, Tor exit nodes, privacy relays and some datacentre networks. This does not by itself mean misuse. Disconnect the VPN or proxy and try again, then contact support to request a review.

What data does Lunafy collect?

Account details from your Discord sign-in, usage data, and security data such as IP addresses to prevent abuse. The privacy policy lists the providers involved. To access, correct or delete your data, write to privacy@lunafy.run.

Is Lunafy affiliated with Discord?

No. Lunafy is not affiliated with Discord Inc.

How do I contact the team?

Discord is the quickest way. You can also email hello@lunafy.run, or billing@lunafy.run for billing.
